“Computer Space 2025” – 37th edition of the international computer arts festival
October 16–18, 2025 | National Student Dormitory, Sofia, Bulgaria
“Computer Space” is a non-commercial, international computer arts festival that returns for its 37th edition this October. For three days, from October 16 to 18, 2025, the lobby of the National Student Dormitory in Sofia will become a center of creativity, innovation and cultural memory, uniting technology, art and history.
The Forum’s program has always included a section “Connection between old and new media”. One of the highlights of this year’s edition is the immersive exhibition, recreating a computer games club from the late 1990s and early 2000s. This is the time when computers were still expensive and had not yet made their way into homes on a mass scale. Dozens of game clubs have been set up in the cities. Visitors will be able to go back in time and see not only some iconic computers and authentic peripherals, but also experience the thrill of playing some of the most popular games of the period with friends over a local area network (LAN). The exhibition concept was created by Boryana Savova and Valentin Milev.
The festival begins on October 16th with the awards ceremony, where projects from Bulgaria and abroad compete for the prestigious “Computer Space” statuettes, as well as a number of other awards. The evening will then continue with presentations by foreign authors who won awards in the “Computer and Electronic Music” and “Computer Animation” categories.with presentations by foreign authors who won awards in the “Computer and Electronic Music” and “Computer Animation” categories.
On October 17th, the program pays tribute to the 100th anniversary of the launch of the iconic Leica cameras. Leica are innovators in many ways in photographic technology and creators of cameras exceptional in design and quality. The temporary exhibition will present rare vintage Leica cameras, as well as some of their newer technological models. Along with the exhibition, photographers Nikolay Treiman and Vladimir Tomashevich will talk about the brand’s legacy in the field of visual storytelling and its influence on several generations of photographers. Dr. Eng. Rosen Petkov will talk about the key technological innovations introduced by Leitz and Leica.
On the last day, Saturday (October 18), a seminar will be held dedicated to gaming clubs and gaming culture in the late 1990s and early 2000s in Bulgaria and the Balkans. Bulgarian computer game magazines from the period are also particularly interesting, about which Dido Karolev from Project Lazarus will tell more. Within the framework of the seminar, Valentin Milev will examine computer clubs as a phenomenon, as well as the youth subculture that formed around them. Emil Gruev, a lecturer at the National Academy of Arts, will talk about the training of game developers and education in this field.
The Computer Space Forum is organized by the Student Society for Computer Art (SCAS) (https://scas.bg ) and is part of the Sofia Municipality’s Calendar of Cultural Events. Traditionally, the Forum is held at the National Student Dormitory. The chairman of the organizing committee is Dr. Eng. Rosen Petkov.
The Computer Space program offers a new creative perspective, combining a retrospective of cultural memory, art and technology. The 37th edition of the festival promises to be memorable for artists, gamers, photographers and everyone interested in technology and digital culture.
